Nine archers took the opportunity to compete on Sunday before TT brings a temporary halt to
proceedings at Greeba. The Gents with a whole day at their disposal, shot a WA1440 – 36 arrows at
each of four distances 90/70/60 & 50m. Emily O’Hara shot a Metric II – same breakdown over
distances of 60/50/40 & 30m. The rest shot shorter Metric rounds in the afternoon. Turnout
continued to be low.
In the Gents Recurve it was a straight head-to-head between Johnathan Gordon and Tom Rogers.
The results went to form, with Johnathan taking an easy win. Tom could take heart from an
improved performance, but it was Johnathan’s show all the way, as he finished 155 points ahead of
his rival.
There was a wildly differing set of results and shooting experiences in the Gents Compound. Rhys
Moore as usual was on fire. Rhys not only took the win but claimed it in style by breaking the old
Club record (previously held by himself) and finishing 128 points ahead of Les Corran. Les put in a
much more consistent performance and was happy with the result. Someone who was far from
happy was Andrew (Westy) Westmorland. While off the island Westy had taken his bow to have the
rest height changed. Unfortunately, this meant that he did not have enough scope clearance
when shooting the furthest distance, which resulted in the top vane being stripped off most of his
arrows as he shot them. This caused a lot of misses and Westy elected to drop out of the 90m and
rejoin the action at 70m. Naturally this tanked his score and put him out of contention. He recovered
well over the remaining three distances but was destined for last place.
Emily O’Hara, unfazed by a few misses, put in a largely positive showing in the Metric II round she
elected to shoot. Taking the win unopposed, Emily recorded a New Club Record to keep the Recurve
flag flying in the absence of Erin Hainge.
Another Club record was secured by Pete Mumford who brought his Barebow out for the afternoon
and took the honours unopposed in a Short Metric 1 (50 & 30m) round.
Lone Lady Compound Joy Gough kept herself ticking over as she too shot a Short Metric 1. A handful
of misses put a dent in the end result, but she still cleared the 500 barrier with room to spare.
Peter Howland had a much better time of things this week in the Gents Longbow, finishing almost
100 points up on his previous attempt.
