With a number of people otherwise engaged at the weekend turnout was low on Sunday. Nine archers turned up to tackle a WA720 round (72 arrows at a single distance), and, while physical numbers were low, the quality of the shooting was high.
The Gents Recurve 70m distance saw the usual suspects of Richard Hainge, Matt Smith and Johnathan Gordon pulling out all the stops as they vied for the top spot. Johnathan has been having a superb season and Sunday was no exception. He swept away the opposition, recording a personal best score that smashed the existing club record by some 58 points to take the win. Johnathan carried on into the afternoon session to shoot the double round and obliterated the club record for that by adding a whopping 164 points to it. Richard and Matt had to settle for the consolation of pb scores for both the single and double round as they came second and third respectively.
In the Ladies division Emily O’Hara also returned a pb for the 70m distance, while Lula Brown posted a pb for the 60m distance.
In the Compound division, shot over a distance of 50m, Rhys Moore and boss mate Caitlan Gelder were both in good form despite having no direct competition. Caitlan was unlucky to have a miss, but this did not stop her from recording a pb for the round.
Peter Howland reverted to his Longbow for the morning to take on Stan Gorry in a straight head-to-head. Stan never really got into his stride, but Peter was on good form, posting a personal best score for the round to take the win by 32 points.
