The big news from the weekend was Johnathan Gordon’s debut at an off-island competition, namely
the Jim Skivington shoot at Penrith.
Unfortunately, the fantastic weather the UK had been experiencing for weeks had not made it as far
as Cumbria and Johnathan, along with Ethan Moore, were greeted with damp, windy conditions
making for a challenging shoot. Day was a qualifying round of WA720 followed by head to head-to-
head knockout rounds.
The Gents Compound division saw low scores for most of the field and a tough set of H2Hs left Ethan
just off the podium in fourth place.
Johnathan however, unfazed by his first away tournament, qualified in top spot, an impressive 36
points ahead of his nearest rival. He followed this up by sweeping his opponents aside in the head-
to-heads (his first ever taste of this format as we do not shoot them at the Club) to take the trophy
in the Gents Recurve.
Day 2 was supposed to be a Double WA720 round, but the weather had deteriorated over night, and
the wind was even worse. After the archers completed the first round and the organisers decided
that the conditions were unlikely to improve and cancelled the afternoon session. This left Ethan
taking third in the Gents Compound and Johnathan in second. Well done to both.
On home soil a small group of archers turned out to shoot a variety of metric rounds. There was only
one direct competition and that was between Erin Hainge and Emily O’Hara in who shot a Ladies
Long Metric (70&60m) with Erin Taking the win.
