The annual Windsor Trophy took place in somewhat inclement weather on Sunday. Conditions were soggy underfoot, the air heavy and damp with a threat of rain. However, after a quick review of all the weather apps, it was given the go ahead. As it was, the small number of archers who turned up got away with a few spots of rain here and there over the morning.
The Windsor comprises of three dozen arrows, shot at each of three distances – 60, 50 and 40 yards. It is divided by bow type only, no gender differentiation, highest score takes the title. In the Recurve division, Richard Hainge, Peter Howland and Charlotte George were joined by junior archer Erin Hainge who felt she needed the challenge after the recent excitement of the Youth Festival. Given Charlotte’s form it was no surprise that she romped to victory, finishing almost 100 points clear of her nearest rival. The fight was really for second place, which turned into a battle between father and daughter duo Richard and Erin Hainge. Erin put in a terrific performance, breaking the u16’s Club record by 25 points, but it was Richard who won the family fight to take second place. Peter Howland, somewhat off the pace, finished fourth.
The Compound division was a two-horse race between Windsor debutante Marie Hainge and elder statesman Peter Mumford. Marie put in a good round, but it was the vastly more experienced Pete Mumford who took the trophy.
The Juniors Trophy was decided over the slightly shorter distances of 50, 40 and 30 yards. This was a straight head-to-head between Lula Brown and Ethan Corran. Lula’s confidence and form has risen steadily over the season and Ethan was no match for her. Lula had one miss but finished 85 points clear to take the title for the first time.
