Club Report 26th April 2026

It was a cold, dank start to the shoot on Sunday, with an icy wind buffeting the shooting line at
Greeba. Mercifully, the rain showers predicted for later in the morning never materialised and
towards lunchtime the sun put in an appearance. With an upcoming shoot off island hosted by the
Bowman of Glen in Leicester on the 9 th /10 th of May, the archer’s continued to practice the WA720.

After missing the first few weeks of the Outdoor season, Johnathan Gordon was back in action in the
Gents Recurve. He carried on where he left off Indoors by taking the win 59 points clear of his
nearest rival Tom Rogers. Tom started well, keeping himself within touching distance of Johnathan
but gradually faded as Johnathan dialled himself in and he had to settle for the comfort of breaking
the 500 hundred barrier and second place. Richard Hainge continued his struggle. Three misses put
him out of contention and, although the conditions did not help, he never found any consistency and
had to settle for third.

Erin Hainge made light of the blustery conditions to post a personal best score for the round that put
all the men bar Johnathan to shame. The season is shaping up nicely for the young archer. Erin took
the win unopposed.

Rhys Moore was up to his old tricks in the Gents Compound division. He complained that his
shooting was “a bit meh” but he annihilated the opposition, taking the win by a clear 70 points in a
straight head-to-head shoot with Les Corran. Les never really got into his stride. A miss did not help,
and, while it had no outcome on the result, it did mean he fell short of the 600 barrier.

Caitlin Gelder joined Marie Hainge, Joy Gough and Aalin George on the shooting line in Ladies
Compound. Aalin, struggling with a cold, was not on top form but still took the win in style, finishing
82 points ahead of the rest of the field. Caitlin Gelder had four misses to Marie’s one but managed
to take second place by a single point. It should be noted that Marie shot in the morning session and
had the worst of the blustery conditions. Joy, shooting for the first time this season, wasn’t
expecting much and she found herself well off the pace in fourth. Joy achieved her primary aim of
finishing the round which was all he she set out to do.

Stan Gorry shot unopposed in the Gents Barebow and started the day by putting his limbs on upside
down. Stan never really found his range. This may have been because his mind was on a new toy he
received just before the shoot started – a hand made longbow, which he planned to put through its
paces at a later date.

Peter Howland likewise had the Gents Longbow division all to himself and took advantage of the
warmer afternoon session to put in a season’s best score.
