Club Report 12th December 2021

Numbers generally get a little low in the run up to Christmas, but the added Covid strictures seem to be having an extra impact as attendance reached an all-time low on Sunday. The handful of archers who did show up shot a Worcester round – 60 arrows shot in groups of 5 with a maximum score of 300.

John Angiolini joined Pete Mumford and Colin Moore on the shooting line in the Gents Compound. Pete seemed to have enjoyed a relaxed shoot, dropping just 6 points over the course of the morning to take a comfortable win. Colin Moore had a bad day at the office. He notched up 6 misses and finished in third place on a score that was well below his best. Being, like all dedicated archers, a masochist at heart Colin will be back for more punishment next week. Recently joined Club member John Angiolini slotted into second place with a solid score of 286. There have been no maximum scores in the Compound so far this season, but there is still plenty of time.

Rose Sandilands had an excellent morning in the Ladies Compound falling just 8 points short of the maximum. Hopefully Joy Gough and Theresa Graves will return after Christmas to give her some competition.

Bod Boland was once again the only representative in the Gents Recurve division. With his new bow properly fettled, Bod shot a lot better this time around, missing only once and recording a respectable score.

The Gents Barebow was a two-horse race between Stan Gorry, shooting in the morning session, and Pete Mumford, switching discipline for the afternoon session. It is a well known fact that men cannot multi-task, and Pete Mumford proved this on Sunday afternoon. Pete was so busy demonstrating to junior Club member Ollie Blockley the correct way to pull arrows out of the target, that he did so before he had recorded his score and had to list them as misses. He had another two misses in addition to the five previously mentioned which put a large dent into his score. Stan Gorry, who minds his own business, kept all of his arrows on target and added 5 points to his pb to take victory.

Ollie Blockley meanwhile seemed to struggle with the Worcester target, a raft of misses taking its toll on her score.
