It was back to a Portsmouth round for the last shoot of November at Onchan on Sunday except for visiting archer, and former club member, Anne Rutland who opted to shoot a WA 18 three-spot. There was a reasonable turn-out for this time of year, but Gents Recurve continued to be light on talent and Barbara Harris’ absence means no Senior Ladies Recurve presence at all.
Rhys Moore continued his dominance of the Gents Compound finishing 17 points clear of his nearest rivals. Cliff Graves and Pete Mumford had the closest of battles for second place with both men finishing on identical scores. On countback Cliff had more golds and so just nudged Pete down into third. Andrew Westmorland finished a comfortable fourth, while the rapidly improving Colin Moore came fifth.
Bod Boland kept Peter Howland company in the Gents Recurve; Bod shooting a full-face Portsmouth, while Peter opted for the three-spot version. Both men had a misses but it was Peter who took an easy victory over Bod who is still getting back up to speed after a long lay-off.
As usual Pete Mumford switched discipline in the afternoon session to put in a barebow round alongside Stan Gorry and Chris Crompton. Chris, who came second at the recent Northern Counties Championships in Sheffield, was on fine form and looked to be on for a pb until a 6 and a 4 in the last dozen scuppered his chances and he had to be content with a resounding victory. Pete slotted into second place, with Stan (reverting to his outdoor bow) came third.
Nathan Kinrade put in another impressive performance in the Junior Gents Recurve adding another 2 points to his pb with a win over Jacob Brookes. Nathan is looking good ahead of his appearance at the Indoor Nationals at Stoneleigh on the 4th of December and the Club wishes him well.
Eloise Kinrade was the only representative in the Junior Ladies Recurve and continues to enjoy the sport.
