Club Report 21st November 2021

With a lot of the usual faces tied up with other commitments, numbers were down on Sunday. The round of the day was a Portsmouth – three spot for Compounds, full face for Recurves but with the option to shoot the harder triple face.

The absence of Rhys Moore made the Gents Compound division more even though it quickly developed into a fight for first place between Pete Mumford and Cliff Graves, and a struggle for third between Colin Moore and Andrew Westmorland. Both Pete and Cliff hit the same number of golds but Pete was just that little bit tidier with the other numbers and clinched victory by two points. Colin Moore, who has just returned to Compound shooting after a gap of eleven months, managed to secure third place despite having fewer golds than Andrew; a testament to his overall greater accuracy.

Theresa Graves was the only competitor in the Ladies Compound, a miss marred an otherwise solid performance.

In the Gents Recurve Peter Howland was the only archer to elect to shoot the triple face which did him no favours, three misses putting a dent in his score. Simon Kenyon secured an easy victory over Bod Boland who has returned to the sport after a gap of several years and needs time to bed himself in.

Pete Mumford once again switched disciplines in the afternoon session to barebow wherein he triumphed over Stan Gorry. Stan has switched back to his wooden bow for the Indoor season while Pete stuck with his Outdoor set-up. Stan should perhaps rethink his strategy.

The only Junior shooting on Sunday was Nathan Kinrade who was keen to get some practice in ahead of the Junior National Championships in December. Nathan looked to be in good form recording a personal best score for the round.
