It was Worcester time again at Onchan on Sunday with a range of bow types and age groups taking part. The Worcester is different from every other Indoor round in that arrows are shot in groups of five, with the scoring zones ranging from 5 down to 1, making the maximum total of 300. Compounds shot on a five spot target, while all other bow types used a single black and white target.
With several Club stalwarts either away on holiday or recovering from Saturday night shenanigans both the Gents Compound and Recurve were short on competition, while the Ladies Compound and Recurve were non-existent. Pete Mumford found himself in a straight head to head with Andrew Westmorland who was making his return after breaking his ribs in an off road cycling accident. It was neck and neck stuff between the two and it appeared to be a draw by the end, but Westy had made a mistake in his addition and Pete took the win by 1 point. Westy was shooting the round for the first time.
It was good to see Simon Kenyon back in action in the Gents Recurve against Peter Howland and Ralf Mitchell. Peter added 6 points to his pb for the round to take top spot. Simon was obviously a little low on practice and finished some way below his best in second. The least said about Ralf Mitchell’s efforts the better. In the afternoon session both Junior Gents Recurvers Jacob Brookes and Nathan Kinrade outshot the Seniors by some margin, with Jacob taking the honours in what was a close match. Both boys added points to their pb’s. It would be good for the Club if some of the more experienced Seniors could find their way to Onchan once in a while.
Stan Gorry and Colin Moore broke out their Traditional Bows in the morning round, with Stan as usual taking victory. Colin switched to Barebow in the afternoon where he went up against Chris Crompton and Pete Mumford who had also change discipline for the afternoon. Pete recorded his second win of the day finishing 15 points ahead of Chris in second, with Colin well off the pace in third.
Eloise Kinrade shot her second Portsmouth towards gaining her handicap.
