Club Report 17 th May 2026

With rain predicted for the afternoon, shooting was restricted to the morning session. The majority
of the archers elected to shoot a Long Metric – 90&70m for the Gents, 70&60m for the Ladies.
Conditions were not great and the turnout was low.

It was a three-way tie between Tom Rogers, Richard Hainge and newcomer Matt Smith in the Gents
Recurve division. With just one miss to blot his scoresheet, Richard made the most of Johnathan
Gordon’s absence to take the win. Still struggling to find the form he had last year, Richard finished
17 points ahead of Matt. It would have been closer if Matt had not had three misses which put a
dent in his score. Tom also racked up three misses, finishing a further 43 points down in third place.

In the Ladies Recurve, Erin Hainge made light work of the conditions. She made all of her arrows
count, effortlessly breaking the 500 barrier to take the win unopposed.

Rhys Moore found himself without competition this week as the only other Compound Gent, Les
Corran, elected to shoot the single distance WA50m. Rhys was on fine form setting a New Club
Record as he took the uncontested win. For his part, Les seemed to have recovered the from the dip
in form he had exhibited in recent weeks and was back to breaking the 600 barrier.

Lone Lady Compound Aalin George worked her usual magic to post a decent score in her division
and is ticking over nicely ahead of the Island Games next year.

Recurver Emily O’Hara elected to shoot a WA60m round. Emily found the blustery conditions
challenging, but her efforts were rewarded with a New Club Record.

Peter Howland’s light weight wooden arrows were no match for the unsettled conditions as he
tackled the Metric 122-50m round in the Gents Longbow division. Less then half of his arrows made
it to the boss, but he did break the 100 barrier, and a win is a win.
