Club Report 25th November 2018

A total of fourteen archers made it to the Onchan Hub on Sunday. The round of the day was a Portsmouth – single face for Recurve/Juniors and triple face for Compound; shot as part of the Club’s Scratch League.

The largest field of the day was provided by the Gents Compound where five archers went toe to toe for victory. It was a hard-fought competition with only 16 points between first and last place. Colin Moore put in another consistent effort but had to settle for fifth place this time. Lack of practice due to work commitments took its toll on Dave Moore who slotted into fourth. Pete Mumford was unable to repeat his success of Tuesday night and had to be content with third place. The fight for first place was between Rhys Moore, who swept the board at Friday night’s Trophy presentation, and Billy Lightfoot. Rhys was low on practice and Billy was breaking in his new bow. Both men continued to struggle with lighting in the hall and hit more 9’s than they would have liked but Billy just out shot Rhys to take the win by 1 point.

Joy Gough once again put in a consistent effort and staying on into the afternoon session shot even better to add 8 points to her pb for the double round. Billy Lightfoot also shot better in the afternoon session to record a pb for the Double Portsmouth.

Greg Altham, Ralf Mitchell and Peter Howland lined up in the Gents Recurve, with Greg Altham taking an easy win 57 points clear of his nearest rival. Peter Howland managed to add 2 points to his pb for the round to take second place. Ralf Mitchell appeared to have an off day, putting an arrow wide of the target and recording a score that was some way down on his best to finish third.

Chris Crompton showed off his Barebow skills as he added 52 points to his pb. This is his second round at the Club and just needs one more to be given a handicap.

With Jane Berry still unwell and Barbara Harris off the island, Kristen Joughin found herself on her own in the Ladies Recurve division but did not allow it to distract her, as she added 43 points to her pb for the round.

Only three Juniors: James Hill, Jacob Brookes and Toby Young turned up to shoot. James Hill did not perform to his usual standard and had to settle for third place. Jacob Brookes broke 500 but had to settle for second and Toby Young comfortably finished in first place.
