Club Report 28th January 2024

Eleven archers turned up on Sunday to tackle a Three-spot Portsmouth, shot as part of the Handicap League. Under this system the scratch score is added to an allowance, based on the archers’ individual handicap, which can be found in an eye-watering table provided by the sport’s governing body, Archery GB. It is the Records … Continue reading Club Report 28th January 2024

Club Report 21st January 2024

Numbers remained high at Onchan on Sunday, where the round of the day was a three-spot Portsmouth. The Trad and Barebows had the option of going for the larger single face. Rhys Moore was once again ‘smokin’ in the Gents Compound dropping just 9 points short of a maximum 600 on his way to inevitable … Continue reading Club Report 21st January 2024

Club Report 14th January 2024

Club members came out of the woodwork and the hall was packed on Sunday morning at Onchan. Archers were shoe-horned in three to a boss to face the challenge of the WA18, which formed the round of the day. Three spot for Compound – single face for Recurve/Barebows. Danny Cowin must have held onto his … Continue reading Club Report 14th January 2024

Club Report 7th January 2024

After a number of sessions were cancelled in the run up to Christmas, it was a subdued start to the new year. Turnout was low but there was a lot of quality on display. The round of the day was a Portsmouth - an easy start to the remainder of the season. The Compounds as … Continue reading Club Report 7th January 2024

Club Report 3rd December 2023

The turnout was low on Sunday. Two of the usual suspects, Joy Gough and Pete Mumford, celebrated their 30th Anniversary in snowy Harrogate, while others were in action at the Indoor Nationals further south. This left only six club members to shoot a Portsmouth on home soil. Charlotte George’s run in to the Indoor Nationals … Continue reading Club Report 3rd December 2023

Club Report 26th November 2023

The Records Officer was obviously in an uncharacteristically good mood when she produced thecalendar for the Indoor season as Sunday proved to be a nice easy Portsmouth round for everyone. In a change to the usual format the Records Officer also provided some background music via asmall, but powerful, Bose speaker linked up to her phone. … Continue reading Club Report 26th November 2023

Club Report 12th November 2023

The Records Officer unleashed the first Vegas of the season on Sunday at Onchan. The round isunusual in that it is shot at a triple target face arranged in a triangular shape, which must be shot in aspecific order: bottom left, top centre, bottom right which after a while plays havoc with the brain. Ifthat … Continue reading Club Report 12th November 2023

Club Report 5th November 2023

It was back to a scratch Portsmouth at Onchan on Sunday. Sixty arrows shot on a single target facefor the Recurves and Barebows, a three spot for the Compounds. The Portsmouth is technically the easiest of the Indoor rounds, but Barbara Harris found it anythingbut. No matter how much she adjusted her sights she just … Continue reading Club Report 5th November 2023

Club Report 22nd October 2023

Having given everyone the chance to warm up over the last three weeks, the Records Officer unleased the WA 18 upon them. The WA 18 Target face is the same size as the Worcester but for some reason the archers find it harder. The Recurves, Bare and Tradbows all got the luxury of a full- … Continue reading Club Report 22nd October 2023

Club Report 15th October 2023

With the sport’s governing body Archery GB revamping the Handicap system and introducing classifications for the Indoor season, everyone had to re-establish their handicap. Three rounds are required to get an initial handicap, so Sunday represented the first time that archers, or at least some of them, could take part in a handicap round. The … Continue reading Club Report 15th October 2023
