Club Report 25th January 2026

It was a day of personal bests and new club records as sixteen archers turned up across the two sessions on Sunday. The round of the day was a Worcester – 60 arrows, shot in groups of 5, with a maximum score of 300. The Compounds had to shoot on the 5-spot target (arranged like the face of a die) but a number of Recurves elected to shoot the 5-spot option too.

Johnathan Gordon’s excellent form continued against David Craine, Richard Hainge and Danny Cowin. Johnathan, led from start to finish taking the win with a new personal best score. Both Richard and Danny had misses but Richard clinched second place by decent margin. David managed to keep all of his arrows on target, but his efforts were only good enough for fourth place. Carrying on into the afternoon session Jonathan also achieved a new club record for the double round.

In the Ladies Recurve, Erin Hainge had a resounding victory over Barbara Harris, Emily O’Hara and newbies Caitlin Gelder and Erin Quirk. Ering Hainge (using the 5-spot target) not only recorded a score that was a pb for her but was also a new club record into the bargain. She then went on in the afternoon session to break the club record for the double. Barbara, reverting to a short limb set-up for her bow that she has not used for several seasons, took a while to dial in her sights but came a comfortable second. Emily, using a new sight which has quietened her bow considerably, put in a pb to take third. Caitlin, shooting in her first club competition, came fourth, with Erin Quirk, in her second ever comp, coming fifth.

With a couple of familiar faces missing, it was a straight head-to-head between Dave Moore and Pete Mumford in the Gents Compound division. Pete did himself no favours by recording a miss, but Dave was on excellent form producing a perfect maximum score of 300 to take the win.

The Ladies Compound likewise was a straight shootout between Joy Gough and Marie Hainge. Joy, hampered by a loose D-loop (the loop on the string the release aid clips into) was no match for Marie who finished over 30 points ahead with a new pb to seal victory.

Colin Moore found himself on the receiving end of a drubbing from Chris Crompton in the Gents Barebow category. Chris took the win in style, finishing 102 points ahead of Colin and posting a new club record to boot.

Peter Howland had the Gents Longbow division to himself, taking the win unopposed.
