With the Records Officer running through the available Indoor rounds, it was the turn of the Vegas on Sunday. The Vegas of comprises a three-spot target arranged in a triangle which has to be shot in a specific order – low left, top, bottom right. It is challenging both mentally and physically. The Barebow/Longbows contented themselves with a Portsmouth.
Rhys Moore continued his domination of the Gents Compound, dropping just 18 points in the morning to take the win and break his own Club Record. It was again a fight for second place for rest of the Compounds. Les Corrin continued to make progress and was tied with Westy going into the final dozen. Les recorded a pb for the round, but Westy held his nerve and secured third place, 5 points behind Dave Moore in second. Pete Mumford finished fifth, a little off the pace of the chasing group, while the two misses Colin Moore had dropped him to the bottom of the table.
James Hill and Richard Hainge joined Jonathan Gordon in the Gents Recurve. Jonathan was never under any pressure from his challengers and took the win in style, finishing 30 points clear of his nearest rival Richard and posting a personal best score into the bargain. James kept a clean score card but failed even to break 500 and had to settle for third.
Interestingly, Jonathan’s main rival for highest Recurve score of the day came from Erin Hainge who posted a pb in the Ladies division that was just 1 point less than Jonathan’s. The rest of the men really need to pull their socks up.
Joy Gough and Marie Hainge went head-to-head again in the Ladies Compound. Both women had misses on what is the hardest of targets, but once again experience was on Joy’s side, and she took her second win of the season.
Emily O’Hara elected to shoot a WA18 single face, putting in a solid round and keeping all of her arrows on target.
Switching to a Tradbow in the afternoon session, James Hill battered Ralf Mitchell who finished almost 60 points behind the younger man who has only recently taken up the discipline.
Peter Howland had the Longbow division to himself and so naturally took the win.
