The archers took advantage of near perfect weather to shoot a range of Metric rounds at Greeba on Sunday.
Jonathan Gordon shot up a storm in the Gents Recurve to record a pb for the WA1440 (90/70/50/30m) and take the win over Richard Hainge who also pb’d. Jonathan has his sights set on the next Island Games which take place in the Faroes in 2027.
Rhys Moore continued to dominate in the Gents Compound taking victory over his dad David by a margin of 130 points. The two misses Dave recorded having no impact upon the outcome.
Junior Erin Hainge, back from an intense few days of competition at the Youth Festival at Lilleshall, tackled the Ladies WA1400 (70/60/50/30m) with great aplomb breaking the 1100 barrier with ease while enjoying the sunshine. She took the win unopposed.
Emily O’Hara put in a full day’s work to shoot a Metric 2 (60/50/40/30m).
In the Ladies Compound division Aalin George also found herself without an opponent but used her back tension release aid to great effect to break the 1300 barrier.
With only half day at his disposal Danny Cowin continued his journey back to fitness by tackling a Long Metric (90/70m). Three out of every six arrows were good but building up archery muscle and stamina will take time.
Peter Howland kept Emily company during the morning session to tackle a Long Metric 2 (60/50m) but failed to take advantage of the excellent conditions.
Colin Moore dusted the cobwebs off his Compound bow to take on a Long Metric 1 (70/60m). He kept all of his arrows on target but fell agonisingly short of 600. Not bad after such a long time away from the Compound discipline.
