Club Report 27th July 2025

An even dozen archers turned up at Greeba on Sunday to shoot a variety of metric rounds. The temperature was good to start with, cooled slightly as the wind circled around the field causing a few problems before the sun came out for the afternoon session.

Jonathan Gordon went head-to-head with Richard Hainge in the Gents Recurve WA 1440. After a slow start at 90m, including a miss Richard recovered to equal his pb but was blown out of the water by Jonathan, who was on fire from the get-go, and took the win by a clear 124 points.

Barbara Harris made her first attempt at shooting for the whole day. She produced a rather average result in the morning session before fatigue hit in the afternoon. A number of arrows remained unshot at the 50m distance which put a dent in her score. A lot of coffee and chocolate as the field was rest for the final distance gave her enough oomph to recover her strength and finish the round and record a win by virtue of being the only person shooting in that division.

In the Gents Compound it was business as usual, with Rhys Moore seizing victory by 130 points from Dave Moore, with Les Corrin 90 points further back in third. Aalin George shot a Long Metric 1 in the morning session and just practiced in the afternoon.

Erin Hainge elected to shoot a 720 round over 60m by way of practice ahead of the Youth Festival at Lilleshall at the beginning of August. Never having shot the round before Erin was guaranteed a pb and she put in a good showing with only one miss to mar her score card. She repeated the round in the afternoon session and was initially disappointed with her efforts until it was pointed out that her maths was at fault and not her shooting and she had in fact beaten her morning total by 56 points. She was joined on the boss by David Craine who started well but faded quickly as the morning wore on.

Emily O’Hara made her first attempt at a Metric II (60/50/40/30m). She shot solidly over the first distance but had a nightmare start to the second, failing to reach the boss with her first six arrows. This did not put her off and she bounced back to show good form over the final two distances. On checking the scores the Records Officer found that the scorer (Erin Hainge) had accidently knocked 20 points off Emily’s total, which she restored. Emily was joined on the boss by Peter Howland who shot a Long Metric II in the morning session.

After his bow delimbed the previous week, Colin Moore was forced to dig into his bow collection to find a replacement. The change didn’t seem to affect him and he had an 8 point lead over Stan Gorry after the first distance (40m). Colin shot solidly over the second distance but Stan was on fire and he overturned the deficit to take the win by 40 points.

Meanwhile, over in the UK Ethan Moore attended a 2-day shoot at Keswick. Day 1 was a Double 720. Ethan pb’s in the morning session shooting 679 and then pb’d again in the afternoon with a score of 680 to come second overall for the day. Day 2 was another 720 followed by the head-to-heads. Ethan came third in the 720 with a score of 671 and came third overall in the head-to-heads.
