Club Report 29th June 2025

There was a low turnout at Greeba on Sunday, where a variety of rounds were shot by those who could be bothered to turn up. The conditions were generally good, with bouts of sunshine. The wind was, as usual, tricky at the bosses which kept the archers guessing.

With Rhys Moore away in England at an invitational shoot for elite archers, it was a straight head-to-head shoutout between Andrew Westmorland and Dave Moore in the Gents Compound division. Westy, whose hard work and dedication over recent months has begun to pay off, led from start to finish. Even without the help Dave Moore gave him by recording three misses, Westy was never under any pressure, and he rode out the victor by a clear 44 points.

Lone Lady Compound Aalin George put in a solid round despite being unable to find most of her archery gear having moved house two days previously. However, she had kept her bow safely tucked away and that was all she really needed to put in a score that was second only to Westy.

The Gents Recurve saw another excellent round from Jonathan Gordon who posted an emphatic win over Richard Hainge. A few low scoring arrows from Jonathan showed that he still had plenty of room to improve but he took the win by 56 points who just couldn’t seem to get fired up. Ralf Mitchell also turned up to give his bow an airing, but no scoresheet was handed in for him, so what he did during the morning session remains a mystery. He may have been too busy spouting his usual quixotic mix of alien invasion and conspiracy theories to shoot…who knows?

Barbara Harris continued her struggle to get back to fighting fitness as she tackled the round unopposed. With her strength slowly returning she managed to get through the first half of the shoot with relative ease, but fatigue began to set in after the mid-session break and more and more of her arrows remained un-shot in the quiver. Barbara’s score was an improvement on the previous week, but she only managed to loose 6 of her final 12 arrows. She is however, heading in the right direction.

With the Junior National Championships coming up on the 5th/6th of July Erin Hainge tackled the WA900 round that will be shot at the Championships. This consists of 30 arrows shot at each of three distances- for Erin’s age group that is 50/40/30m. This is normally a three-quarter day round but Erin stormed through it in the morning session to add 3 points to her pb. She went on to shoot a single distance 50m 122 round in the afternoon session at which she also pb’d. The Club wishes her the best of luck in the Junior Championships.

Anastacia Schnetler shot a Metric III (50/40m) in the afternoon session and picked up some useful coaching tips from Pete Mumford while she was at it.

Pete Mumford, Joy Gough and David Craine shot a National round (yards) for a 60+ Postal League Competition but Pete took the scoresheets away with him, so the results are not known. Judging by the way he was twirling his arrows out of his quiver, Peter shot well.
