It was the turn of the punishing 3 spot WA18 on Sunday. The target, made up of three faces arranged vertically, is even smaller than the dreaded single face and only has scoring zones from 10 down to 6. It was supposed to be part of the Handicap League, but the Records Officer caught between the Scylla and charybdis of work and divorce didn’t have time to apply the handicap. This will be rectified at a later date.
In the Gents Compound division, Rhys Moore continued to reign supreme. His score in the morning session was just 5 points off his pb for the round. Andrew Westmorland took his usual second place, with Colin Moore, swapping disciplines for the week, slotting into third. The fight to avoid the wooden spoon came between Pete Mumford and Dave Moore. Pete sprinted out of the blocks and, while he dropped out of the centre for long periods, was just a bit more consistent and Dave was left to languish in last place.
Lone Lady Compound Marie Hainge was a little let down by a miss in her fourth dozen but recovered to break the 500 barrier.
Richard Hainge, Johnathan Gordon, David Craine and Peter Howland lined up in the Gents Recurve with the usual result. Johnathan took the win by a clear margin of 24 points from Richard, who was untroubled in second. Peter Howland dipped in and out of form over the morning but kept more of his arrows on target than David who was relegated to last place.
Barbara Harris had the Ladies division all to herself, which was just as well as her form evaporated after the mid-session interval and the misses mounted up.
Ralf Mitchell turned in a scorecard that as usual looked like something the Bash Street Kids had produced, all scribbles and ink blots. Both he and Stan Gorry claimed to have shot Tradbow alongside Bill Callow, with Stan taking the win, Bill a solid second and Ralf inevitably last. The Tradbows used the larger single face, as is their right.
In the u18 girls category Lula Brown ‘enjoyed’ her first taste of the WA18 three spot and posted a respectable score in spite of fading over the last dozen. Erin Hainge (u15 girls) fresh from her victory at the Northern Counties put in an excellent score; the highest by a female Recurve on the day that was only marred by a couple of misses.
