In what turned out to be the last shoot of the Indoor Season, the archers tackled a Vegas. This mind-bending round consists of a three-spot target face, arranged in a triangle, and shot in order: bottom left, top centre, bottom right. It is easily the hardest of the indoor rounds and requires an even higher level of concentration from the archer than usual.
The round was the choice of Colin Moore who fancied having another bash at it with his Barebow – as if Barebow wasn’t challenging enough. Judging by the noises coming from his corner it was a choice he regretted. Being the only Barebow to take on the round he did at least come away with a win for his efforts. Fellow Barebow specialist Stan Gorry elected to shoot a single face WA 18 and was much the happier of the two.
In the Gents Recurve division Johnathan Gordon ended the season as he had begun with a victory. Unbeaten during the Indoor season Johnathan finished with a resounding win to post the highest recurve score of the day. Peter Howland took second place, over 150 points behind Johnathan, with Richard Hainge taking the final spot on the podium. Adrian Beale took a solid fourth place, while the infrequent, but always welcome visitor David Craine had to settle for fifth.
In the Gents Compound Rhys Moore continued his unbeaten run to take an easy victory over Pete Mumford, Chris Crompton and David Moore, in that order. Lady Compound Aalin George turned up in a condition reminiscent of Danny Cowin, but prettier and minus the growling. She still put up a good show and out-scored most the men.
In the Ladies Recurve Charlotte George once again thrashed a subdued Barbara Harris who struggled throughout the morning.
The action now moves to the Outdoor range at Greeba where the weather and the midges tend to be more of a problem than the shooting.
