Numbers remained high at Onchan on Sunday, where the round of the day was a three-spot Portsmouth. The Trad and Barebows had the option of going for the larger single face.
Rhys Moore was once again ‘smokin’ in the Gents Compound dropping just 9 points short of a maximum 600 on his way to inevitable victory. Pete Mumford was 34 points behind in second place while, newcomer to the discipline, Chris Crompton finished another 4 points further back in third.
After something of a ‘meh’ showing the week before, lone lady Compound Aalin George was back on song as she recorded a season’s best score.
Danny Cowin continued to work on his merit badge by turning up for the third week running; the most effort he has put into the Indoor season for about five years. Danny’s verdict on his performance was unprintable but it was good enough for second place. He was one of only two gents Recurves to break the 500 barrier, the other being Johnathon Gordon who shot a personal best score to take the win. Richard Hainge continued to enjoy the challenge of archery as he attempted the three-spot for the first time, coming third, well ahead of Peter Howland.
After a slow start in the Ladies Recurve, Charlotte George found her groove and took the win in emphatic style. Barbara Harris found her mind, and form, wandering. After a decent start it was all down hill to second place. She did at least put her bow together properly this week, but it was about the only thing she did right. M.J Esquival had trouble getting her head around the triple target face but seemed to have fun anyway.
Colin Moore had the Barebow division all to himself and bravely took on the three-spot. As it was, he put in a decent score and planned on giving it another go later in the season.
Bill Callow put his British Trad bow to good use against Damon Warr’s Mongolian Trad bow. Bill kept all of his arrows on target and scored more than twice as many points as Damon on the traditional Portsmouth face to take an easy victory.
