Club Report – 20th August 2023

Due to the Grand Prix starting in the early afternoon, the decision was made to try host an early morning session for those keen to fling some arrows. Due to holidays, marshalling duties and peoples love of their bed on a Sunday morning, only 5 souls assembled at the field at 8am. The round of the day was WA720. In the recurve department, Charlotte George was the soul entrant shooting at 70m, with only her recent return to archery, she was pleased enough with her performance, but knows there is good room for improvement going forward.

The other recurver was young Erin Hainge shooting at the furthest distance for her age group of 40m, being away in a couple of weeks’ time for a competition, she was as keen as ever to get some arrows down range. She has made some tweaks with her kit over the past few weeks, including increasing the draw weight of her bow, and it is starting to show some good results. As she is still getting used to the changes, there were some loose arrows, but it is definitely heading in the right direction in advance of her competition in Chester.

In the Compound division at 50m, there was a 3-way head-to-head between David & Rhys Moore and Aalin George. Rhys enjoyed a consistent shoot taking a comfortable victory. David was in the lead after the first dozen; however, a miss dented his score. Not to be outdone by Peter Mumford’s new bow (who was absent to marshal), David made several hints that he also might be treating himself over the winter. Aalin graced the field with her presence following her holiday to the north-east, however she informed the club she is off again in a couple of weeks to bob around the Caribbean! The lack of shooting time had taken its toll, with some great grouping being coupled with the occasion loose arrow.
